The Salento, also known as “Penisola Salentina” is the geographical territory that corrisponded to the Old Terra d’Otranto and includes: the whole Lecce’s province, almost the entire province of Brindisi and Taranto’s province.

The beauty of this area is reflected in the beautiful clear water of the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic Sea. About 250 km of coastline, sometimes low and sandy, sometimes rocky and high.

The wealth of history and traditions, the natural and architectural beauty together with the people’s hospitality, make the Salentina’s atmosphere magic.

In Salento you can find the beautiful city of Poggiardo. It was built around the year 1200. After the destruction of Vaste (Messapic City) by the Normans.
Visiting the old town is like making a trip back in the past.

The town is embellished by monuments such as the Palazzo Ducale (uninhabited), the Byzantine crypt, the Church Matrice. Other monuments are gone, it retains almost nothing of year 1500 and the centuries before. It can be said that largely dates back to 1600 - in fact some buildings bear the dates of 1519 - 1602-1698.
